LibGuide SPOTLIGHT

An open letter to the SIT Community,

Education is a life-long endeavor. We are not born knowing all we will need to know, nor will we always be prepared to accept and embrace points of view that directly stand against our own. Nonetheless, it is our blessing and burden as life-long learners to prepare ourselves for the challenges we see and face in the world, as allies or activists, be it an injustice directly on us or on our fellow brothers and sisters.

It is our belief as librarians and information professionals that misinformation is often more dangerous to our social fabric and goals of a just world than we, as a nation, care to recognize. In addition, often people want to do right by others but do not have the words to express their thoughts or the evidence to support their claims.

We have created a LibGuide titled Racism, White Privilege, and Police Brutality for the purpose of sharing resources, both owned by SIT's Donald B. Watt Library and others that are available through open-access, that address Racism, White Privilege, and Police Brutality.

We encourage you to utilize the Donald B. Watt Library as a resource for research assistance to locate credible and reputable resources, be they interviews, first-person narratives, newspaper articles, opinion pieces, statistics and analysis, lesson plans for talking with youth, or collective narratives.

We strongly encourage and welcome suggestions for resources that would help to add to this conversation. Please feel free to submit a link to any suggested resources that you feel others could benefit from via the "suggest a link" boxes that are placed throughout the Racism, White Privilege, and Police Brutality LibGuide.

In Solidarity,

Donald B. Watt Library Staff
